About this tool
BMI is weight in kilograms divided by the square of height in metres. For adults of South Asian origin, Indian guidelines treat 23 and above as overweight and 25 and above as obese - lower than the WHO’s international cut-offs of 25 and 30.
BMI does not tell muscle from fat and is not meant for children, pregnant women or athletes. For advice about your own health, see a doctor.
