Insurance and welfare for workers abroad, help in distress, programmes for young overseas Indians, and pensions.
Schemes at a glance
- Pravasi Bharatiya Bima Yojana (PBBY): compulsory insurance for workers going abroad on an ECR (Emigration Check Required) passport to ECR countries, covering accidental death and permanent disability. Buy or renew it on eMigrate.
- Indian Community Welfare Fund (ICWF): help from Indian missions to Indian citizens in distress abroad: boarding and lodging, air tickets home, legal help, and bringing home the mortal remains.
- MADAD: raise a consular problem with any Indian mission online and follow it to the end.
- Know India Programme: a three-week visit to India for young people of Indian origin, aged 21 to 35.
- Scholarship Programme for Diaspora Children (SPDC): help with fees for children of NRIs, PIOs and OCI cardholders studying in India.
- National Pension System: NRIs may join and pay in from abroad.
