Jainism

The Digambar and Shwetambar traditions: their institutions, teachers and tirthas, the Jain scriptures and libraries, and where to learn about Jainism.

Jainism has two great traditions. Digambar monks renounce all possessions, clothing included, and the tradition holds that the original scriptures were lost; its texts include the Shatkhandagama and the works of Acharya Kundakunda. Shwetambar monks and nuns wear white, and the tradition keeps the Agamas as its canon; its orders include the Murtipujak (temple-going), Sthanakvasi and Terapanth. Both follow the twenty-four Tirthankaras, from Rishabhanatha to Mahavira.
